Hartswood Holiday Park at sunrise, with the Yorkshire countryside beyond
Things to do

Yorkshire, right on the doorstep.

Hartswood sits in the Vale of Pickering just outside Malton, so the theme parks, steam railways, moorland and coast are all an easy drive from the park gate. Here's what our guests head out for most, with rough driving times from us.

Flamingo Land

10 mins

Yorkshire's biggest theme park and zoo — rollercoasters, splash rides and animals, a proper full family day out.

Woldies Farm Park

15 mins

Hands-on farm fun for little ones — animal handling, indoor play barns and go-karts whatever the weather.

North Yorkshire Moors Railway

25 mins

Steam trains from Pickering across the moors to Whitby, straight through Heartbeat and Harry Potter country.

Eden Camp

10 mins

The award-winning wartime museum set in a genuine POW camp — one of the best days out in Ryedale.

The Shambles, York

35 mins

Medieval streets, independent shops and the Minster round the corner — York's most famous lane.

Dalby Forest

25 mins

Miles of walking and mountain-bike trails, Go Ape and forest play areas under the pines.

Malton

10 mins

Yorkshire's food capital — delis, breweries, the monthly food market and a great choice of places to eat.

North York Moors

20 mins

Heather moorland, hidden dales and postcard villages right on the doorstep for walking and driving days.

Castle Howard

15 mins

One of England's grandest stately homes, with sweeping gardens, lakes and a woodland adventure playground.

York

35 mins

The Minster, city walls, museums and riverside pubs — an easy day trip from the park.

Scarborough & the coast

35 mins

Two sandy bays, the harbour and classic seaside days out along the Yorkshire coast.

Whitby

45 mins

The abbey, 199 steps and the best fish and chips on the coast, with cobbled streets to explore.

Getting around from the park

Malton is the nearest town for shops, supermarkets and places to eat, about ten minutes away, and it's also the closest railway station on the York–Scarborough line. The coast at Scarborough and Filey is roughly forty minutes, and Whitby around an hour by road, or you can take the steam train from Pickering instead. There's free parking on site, so the car stays with you all week.
